2021, Single-channel video, 20 min.
This Land… documents a two-day performance in which Skarbakka constructed a 24 × 60-foot, four-strand barbed-wire fence across Piney Creek on the grounds of Ucross in Wyoming. Presented as a 20-minute single-channel video, the work was developed during a residency at Ucross and later exhibited as a companion to White Noise. Built on land with a long history of Indigenous presence, the temporary fence draws connections between histories of territorial enclosure and displacement in the American West and the structures of power examined in White Noise. The work uses the fence as both a physical structure and a symbol of ownership, exclusion, protection, and control.
